Excellent suggestion. I have or maybe I should say had an auto-immune
disease,
which included some IBS symptioms,,,, changed my diet under a weight loss
and
weight lifting program.... bam, all symptoms disappeared. The inflammation
symptoms, the lung symptoms, the IBS symptoms - all gone.
One thing, I was removed from fruit for a long time. I don't know if that
helped some of the problems,,,,, but recently I read an article on the
importance of not eating fruit when other food is in the gut - it ferments -
so
I'm thinking time of day to eat fruit relative to other meals is important.

Don, we had patients at the rehab center with Chron's. Are they doing
anything
about her immune system? I know our doc was pretty insistant that getting
the
immune system to slow down was an immediate concern along with knowing what
things in the diet would aggravate (raw veggies, lactose, high fiber, etc.)
the
condition. He pushed for organic foods and removal of as many chemicals from
the home/environment and food as possible.
My mother had ulcerative colitis and DH had IBS. My mother wouldn't change
her
diet and she ended up having surgery 8 times. DH no longer has any symtoms
due
to diet change.
Lynda, sending all kinds of positive energy to Don's d-i-l!

Don, Crohns, as you know, is auto-immune. I don't have Crohn's or
Celiac, but I do have RA and mine is also systemic. Many people can
manage Crohns or Celiac or RA or other auto-immune disorders with diet
or lifestyle changes but things get more complex when the disease
becomes systemic. Her heart failiing, as you describe, and her lungs
filling, as you describe, are common complications to RA, Crohns, and
other auto-immune disorders. The immune response just goes haywire and
over-reacts by pumping fluid into the lungs. Very often, liver or
kidney failure or weakness complicates the medical treatment, too. I
know that my liver is not in very good shape right now. I had a CT scan
a few months back and quite by accident, they discovered that I have
rheumatoid lung, bunches of benign nodules in my lungs. So far, no
interstitial damage or disease, so I am good for now.(mine also affects
my heart and eyes) I guess my point is to just be careful of advice. It
sounds like her situation is very complex and involves multiple organ
systems. People just don't realize that auto-immune disease has such a
high mortality mainly because organ systems are weakened or unbalanced.
Give her (and your family) my best. Hang tough and develop that warrior
mentality.

SISU! (Finnish--There is no single word in English that encompasses
all that sisu means, but it combines the following ideas: guts, pep,
determination, stubbornness, perseverance, hardiness, stamina, go, do,
nerve, spunk, pluck, and grit. It's like "Just Do It!" & "Go for It!")
