HI Bev,
My favorite of the pears they offer is the starking delicious. They
produce a lot
and are good for eating, canning, etc. Sounds like you may have a
polination
problem with the maxine, does it bloom at a different time from your yard
pears?
I also used to get pear trees from Johnson Nursery in Ellijay, I had an
Orient pear
from them that was blight resistant, and produced fruit over about 5
weeks., no pressure
to pick and can a whole treeful at once.

Everything they sell will grow in our zone too.
Good luck,
Drew

What kind of pear do you think I should grow? This is zone 7.
I have two 'yard pears', probably Keiffers, that produce enough to whet
my appetite for a really good variety, and one Maxine grafted onto
Moonglow. That tree is almost 10 years old, 25 feet tall or more, and I
have only gotten a few pears from it. I like making pear salad,
(pears, cheese, a splash of mayo and a cherry), I can some just to eat ,
but mostly I just like a good eating pear that will keep at least as
well as apples. I like the taste and texture of Bosc and Bartlets, and
I like the color of more red pears...I have the Stark catalog in front
of me and can't decide. Suggestions?
Bev
