If fire blight is a problem like, here, think resistance. I can't recommend
a variety. I have a young Seckel pear tree that put one fruit this year. Two
others are crisp and sweet (Green Jade cultivar. U.S. Patent No. 14043) but
it's young, can't attest to anything on it. One thing I've learned about the
modern pears is that different companies sell them under different names.
Pat. # is the same.
Also, I am not afraid to buy modern fruit trees. Way I see it is old
varieties were new once.
On the other hand, I'm always on the look out for an old apple or pear tree
that has great fruit. I've got my eye on a pear tree up the road to graft
this spring.
