Thanks for the research. The crux of the matter for me is that I never have enough garlic for our yearly consumption. I spend more time on garlic bed preparation than on making ready any other seed bed. These two factors make me most loathe to do anything that would diminish the bulb harvest. I have eaten the curly veggie-like tops of some varieties as that does not diminish the harvest. But to eat a stalk would be to kill the plant, would it not?
