A point worth making, though in the interests of clarify I'd like to
add that what Goulder has retracted is the *terminology* of
"midrash" to describe the creative work of the evangelists (_Luke:
A New Paradigm_ (JSNT, Sup 20; Sheffield: Sheffiedl Academic
Press, 1989) and not the substance of the claim that they were
engaged in extensive, creative embroidery drawing on their
sources, the Scriptures, inference etc.
