Steve,

Here's my original setup:

I've compiled FreeTDS and gotten tsql to work correctly:

[jays@jays-linux src]$ tsql -S jays.corp.digimine.com -U corp\\jays
Password:
Msg 5703, Level 0, State 1, Server JAYS, Line 0
Changed language setting to us_english.
1> exit
[jays@jays-linux src]$

However, after compiling sqsh and running it, no joy:

[jays@jays-linux src]$ ./sqsh -S jays.corp.digimine.com -U corp\\jays
sqsh-2.1 Copyright (C) 1995-2001 Scott C. Gray
This is free software with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY
For more information type '\warranty'
Password:
Msg 18452, Level 14, State 1

Login failed for user 'corp'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server
connection.
Login incorrect.

jkl suggested turning logging, but I'm not sure what he meant by that. I have my freetds.conf configured this way:

# jay's SQLServer
[jays.corp.digimine.com]
host = jays.corp.digimine.com
port = 1433
tds version = 8.0
try domain login = yes
try server login = no
nt domain = corp
; cross domain login = yes
dump file = /home/jays/jays.tdsdump.txt
debug level = 99

in my freetds.conf file under the section for jays.corp.digimine.com, but the resulting files aren't very interesting (for the failure, they just show the packet coming back with the failure message:

finally, my comment about the Samba username/domain name was from a large note I have printed out and posted beside my linux machine that says:

"A collegue of mine found the answer to my post through tial and error.

mount -t smbfs -o username=username/domain //server/share /mnt/point

Note: username/domain is backwards from the way you do it on NT"

I'm sure the original source of this note could be found googling on newsgroups....

This is the only flag you should need. The other flags affect the
FreeTDS ABI, and if you needed them you would know soon enough because
sqsh would complain about missing symbols.

Unfortunately, I still haven't seen your original message come through
the mailing list. Can you repost the errors you're seeing? I can't help
but think the solution would be really obvious if I could just see the
sqsh output... :)

I'm not sure where you've encountered this usage. I've never seen domain
names and usernames concatenated in Samba at all, except by winbind,
which has its own syntax.
