It shouldn't be hard to understand the connection between sinlessness and immortality since this is precisely the connection that Genesis makes, in 2:17, 3:3 etc.

I would emphasize that the question you're asking, Liz, is apparently not a question Paul asked.  In the letters we have, Paul simply takes the "Christ-event" as a given and reads theological meaning out of that with the help of the Hebrew scriptures, probably Greek rhetoric and philosophy, and GOK what else.  It's a good question and raises all sorts of other good questions about Pauline theology.  Of course Paul didn't know that "the gospel" or "a gospel" was a book about the life of Jesus; and he had no doubts that the risen Christ was the same as the pre-Easter Jesus.  Again I think 2 Cor 5:16 is very much a key text.

Since I will be teaching Pauline Theology this fall, I guess this means I have to reread Dunn's earlier book on Christology as well as the big new one.  We'll also be reading Beker, Paul the Apostle, as well as the four SBL Pauline Theology volumes and other articles.  Also want to have the students work through some meaty Pauline texts in Greek (this is a new level III course).  Ought to be one heck of a semester.

Any suggestions for Pauline or LXX or other texts to have my students translate and work through in this Pauline Theology course?  They have all had a year of Greek.  Let's start with 1 Cor 15 and Rom 5:1-12.

All best,
