oh hogwash.

DRM-Dave wants a commercial monopoly to put CC-SA works
on his hardware platform. And you're willing to give it to him.

Lucas wants a monopoly to put CC-SA works in his movie.
AND YOU'RE WILLING TO GIVE IT TO HIM.

The deal was Lucas wouldn't make ALL derivatives CC-SA.
The entire movie would be All Rights Reserved.
Whatever bits of CC-SA work he uses
(maybe a character, maybe some music, maybe some props)
he will give you back whatever surface modifications he
made to those items,

but the full derivative,
i.e. THE MOVIE,
is not CC-SA. He won't do it all CC-SA.

But because you want to see it in the movie theater
and because you want to see (insert names of famous
actors and actresses here) play in the movie, you're
willing to forgoe the CC-SA license

FOR THIS PLATFORM. FOR THIS INSTANCE.

The only difference between this and DRM-Dave is
surface differences. They are functionally the same.

Someone wants to use CC-SA content on their PLATFORM
without the work being CC-SA on that platform.

And you're willing to let them have it,
you're willing to surrender CC-SA,
simply because you want to see your content on
that platform.

The platform is proprietary.

Whether it's DRM-Dave's hardware or Lucas's specially
priviledged movie, its proprietary.

If you have some GNU-GPL code and you want to allow
someone to make a proprietary version that only they
can sell, by all means, that's your right.

But do it with your content, do it with a dual license.
Maybe you can make some money while you're at it.

But don't surrender the community's work to this
proprietary fork just because you'd like to see
their work on Dave's platform.

Greg
