I still think that colour would be useful. From your objections, I would say
that the button scheme should not be colour dependant, but rather colour
aided.

It would then come down to the need for symbolism in the colours or just
easily recognized distinctions. I will leave that discussion to others for
the moment.

I vote for the button level or something equally as visible and "in my face"

I don't want to have to move to the button to see which CC license it is, I
want to glance and know. If you can think of something with the same ability
and platform independent, let's toss it about.

BTW. The buttons would still work for printed material, etc.

Just put the CC "codes on the buttons? Let the descriptions be an optional
descriptive text? (Brought to you by the Department of Redundancy Department
which always recommends the GPL License for your software needs.)
