Compaq LTE5280 120MHz is PII without the MMX (or SSE, or 3Dnow).
Mplayer says it is P54C but that was 70-100MHz. P54CQS was 120MHz.
P54CS (also without MMX) was 133-200MHz. So anything up to 200MHz might
not support MMX, and anything under 166MHz has no MMX.

Currently playing online on the LTE5280.
I compiled target=586 and --disable-mmx --disable-mmx2 sse sse2 3dnow 3dnowex and rtc (no more annoying messages about it).
--enable-runtime-cpudetection. Also disabled all video/graphics formats, anything language related. 2.6MB stripped not gzipped. Smaller than the 3.1MB i586 version.
The speakers on here are terrific though small and on the top edge of the top cover instead of in front of the keyboard. My partner was complaining that the JBL Pro ones sounded like they were in a can. There is also a headphone/speaker out and a line in jack. No USB. Two pcmcia ports, serial, parallel, working floppy drive. File transfer via network. Upload download or netcat.
Mplayer is using 45.2% of 120MHz, and 10% of 80MB (about 8MB) used by three mplayer processes (not two as before) at 128K. Since graphics is not involved, it appears to download faster. I saw speeds of 40-50K with lynx (dialup is 5K max), and 128K sounds okay.
0.5% of cpu (I double checked) and 10% of 80MB used at a 24K station.
Talk sounds okay.
Someone online asked about compiling for a 386 but they tend not to have 10MB memory. I will compile for a 486 on request.
My other 120MHz Compaq needs adjustments not to play things at double speed or otherwise strangely with various programs. Will try the 133MHz $3500 HP Omnibook with 24MB.
I hope Ron can figure out runtime cpu detection but can live without ogg and aacp.
