I found 'sniffer-0.5.tar.gz' from www.stev.org which I think provides the
IP addresses and is ncurses-based and worked with 2.2.16 RH6.1. 64K

But would not compile.....

The neighbor with XP and Fedora suggested I use ipconfig in DOS (from Win95 and later) to collect network info including IP addresses.

How can I use ipconfig in plain DOS without wireless card drivers? I can't imagine it will work in Windows when Windows on the laptop would not detect any signal using the proper card drivers (or install the pcmcia adaptor on the other computer).

He also told me to set up the router that came with the cisco card and ping that for practice. He does not know how to find its IP address in linux but I could bring it over to his XP computer to get the address.
Or ping his IP address.

Common addresses are 192.168.0.1 and 10.10.10.1 he said.
I found also 192.168.1.254

I can ping 192.168.1.255 (must be my own computer, it pings fast).

I need to do a lot more reading on this.
