Where did you put these codecs? Mine are in /usr/local/lib/codecs as
instructed (by the package README, I think).

/usr/local/lib/codecs is the correct location. I see that you got the
README from the rp9 codec package that is at your BL download
site.

Is there some way to query the package to find out.

Nope. I should clarify and add to the documentation for the
next release.

mplayer cannot find racook, but I have /usr/local/lib/codecs/cook.so.6.0

rp9 codecs included drv3 and 4, cook, and several others, but not the wm*
codecs. WMA files are playing for me. Maybe the wm ones were included by
David already.

Which MPlayer are you using? The one that is currently at my site does
work with racook codecs. But several of the older versions will not work
even if the codecs are installed (they do not support binary codecs).

Check the file size of mplayer.tgz (I now have a list of the exact sizes of
everything at my site).

I have on my computer, having renamed the versions:

1. mplayeralsa.tgz (the one that did not work with oss) - 3120386K
- did this one need pentium II to play mp3?

2. mplayerp1.tgz - 3170192K - does not need Pentium II

3. mplayer3 (gunzipped) - 7015424 - the one I am using. Might be the same as number 2.

Did I miss the latest package? It was hard to keep track after a while.
There was something fancy we had to do with a .bz2 file at one point, such as substitute a replacement for the executable when it would not bunzip properly.

I kept them all because it was not clear to me which ones had which advantages. If you want to compile again (from the latest code if it has changed) including svgalib, I could replace them all. Can you include cook.so.6.0 in the executable or in the package? Only 77K. I have not run into other realaudio formats. You could also, for BL, put ao=oss in the config file as default. Mplayer won't play sounds without specifying some sound system.

Or I could try to do this against uclibc with a lot of coaching. I presume I add uclibc to the setup with glibc and point the compiler at it.
