Would anyone like to help us compile the latest dosemu (developers'
version) for BL2 with glibc2.2.5? I followed instructions, we have
the right kernel and compiler, but make gives an error message
about XXX not found in function main. We found XXX in some file
(Makefile) being written to tmp2 and then written from there to
somewhere else but beyond that I have no idea what to do next.
It would be helpful if you sent the output of make. However, you
probably should not send it to the list, since the output can
grow very large.
In our case it was only half a page of output before it exited with an error message which I will post later.
The older version for BL3 works okay in CLI but xdosemu won't even
load.
I didn't know that the CLI version for BL3 worked. Does WP work
okay in BL3 dosemu? Also, you may be able to get xdosemu to work
by installing Slackware 4.0 X libraries (or did you do that
already? I forget)
There is some bug having to do with vga font lacking, and substitution of 9x15 instead, and an X library that is missing something expected. They apparently fixed this in more recent versions, where they include more fonts and don't require X fonts. But I don't want xdosemu, I want CLI, but there is still the problem of underlines showing up as bold in linux on a TTL monitor. The source code for mdacon implies that it does underlines.
The precompiled version of xdosemu for glibc2 has its own problems in that you cannot type , or i.
Or maybe Steven or someone would just like to compile it for BL3
and/or BL2 with 2.1.3.
I will try compiling dosemu. I will try building it against both
uClibc and glibc 2.2.
Great, thanks! Let us know if you run into the XXX and function main error. I am sure other users of Basiclinux would appreciate it, since they are coming from DOS.
If you get it working with uClibc you might offer it as a static binary to the dosemu site. I think their last precompiled binary needed glibc2.2.5.
Do you think you could figure out mdacon and underlines too? It really would be nice not to have to exit linux to edit a document. I could ask the maintainer for help, but he never got back with me about adding a scroll buffer. I wrote asking if I could copy over the code for it from vgacon.c and try to compile the module. Nobody seems to have done any work on mdacon for five years. I know there are at least two of us in this list using TTL monitors with linux.
