David's suggestion was to put exec in front of opera.
Should I also put it in front of icewm and rxvt?

No. Use exec on the last line (to call the last
executable). Putting exec in the middle of a
script will probably terminate the script at that
point.

icewm&
exec opera&
rxvt

Is this correct? It looks to me like exec is in the middle.
It worked as I had hoped (rxvt is there when I exit Opera or I can toggle to it with Alt-Tab).

you are keeping an unnecessary process alive.

I presume this takes up more RAM. A lot more?

No, not a lot. But, you're the person who seeks
extreme minimalism.

I am not using opera on low-RAM computers

Then why do you object to a complete icewm installation?

I have no use for the various programs that are included with it (graphical clock and calculator) or all the themes. I kept adding one bit at a time until it worked. Eventually I will add the menu and one theme once I figure out just how to do that. Too many other things to learn first.

Would I notice much difference with or without exec?

Probably not. But I for one do not like useless
processes running on my system.

That probably makes more sense than worrying about useless files all over the place (locale files take up a few M, things for other hardware in glibc and kernel a few more M). >

Steven
