Thanks for the suggestion, but the BIOS is set to auto detect the HDs. I
went into BIOS setup and ran it's autodetect utility but it still saw only 8
GB. The manufacturer says you can see the whole thing under NT Install if
you use some special driver. Regarding the second part, I think you
misunderstood; What I meant was that if I boot into DOS using a floppy I can
see the HD and the SSD. If I boot into BL I can't see the SSD and I can't
boot BL at all with the HD attached.

I can only answer part of the problem, however here is
what I see.

You should use either F2 or F10 (depending upon
computer type) to enter the BIOS setup and see if you
can't do a Hard Drive Probe. This should, hopefully,
clear up that problem.

Also, the disk that you boot Basic Linux from isn't,
technically speaking, a DOS disk. It is actually a raw
image disk. The second disk, as my experience has
been, can be either a DOS disk or a ext2 disk. I have
been able to use either with some success and without
mtools no less (maybe my computer is just weird that
way). Any rate, hope the BIOS suggestion helps.
