I was able to use Christf's BL3 sound (SB16) package in loop BL3 with the folowing cards:

Creative SB16 (but not Vibra16), except one that crashed DOS diagnose.
Audio Excel SB clone, worked in 8-bit and synthesized sound in DOS, did not play 16-bit or midis; in linux plays .wav files
ESS 1868F - worked with 2 cards in linux but not with SB16 in DOS
(One other 1868F and two 1869F's did not work - 'device or resource busy')

What does this 'device or resource busy' signify? I used the default io=220, irq=5, dma=1 settings typical of most CT cards. How do I determine the actual settings?

ALS100 is supposed to be an SB16 clone but my DR-DOS crashes when I try to boot DOS with the card in the machine.

I then tried a few other cards, first loading soundcore.o, soundlow.o, sound.o.
1. Opti 930/931 with mad16.o (first uart401 and ad1848) - 'device or resource busy' These are ISA cards and also wanted io irq and dma.
Perhaps I guessed wrong.

2. Trident PCI card with trident.o (first insmod ac97_cod.o) - 'device or resource busy'. I was not asked to specify addresses but it still did not work.

The following PCI cards worked with just sound*.o and the specific driver module:

ESSSOLO 1838S essolo1.o
Audio PCI5200 Creative as ESS 1373 - es1371.o

So from my limited experience I recommend Creative cards, PCI ESS cards, and some ESS Audio Drive cards (maybe all if you can figure out the settings). 1868, maybe 1869.

I notice that Christof put the sound modules in their own directory instead of misc so I did that too. Neater.

The 4x4 CD-ROM reader works in linux (first tray) with BL2 but in BL3 I cannot get isofs.o to insmod. cdrom.o and ide-cd.o work. I forget the error message. I followed the recommended order of insmod'ing. So to get at modules I copy them using DOS. What might be going wrong with isofs.o? Does it not like my drive?
