In 8-bit Xvesa the red kings appear blue.

xfreecell works fine in 4-bit color. Red is red, and
black is black. It is true that on a 640x480 screen
you can put so many cards in a column that they run off
the bottom of the screen, but that has no effect on the
game.

My apologies. The blue for red is what happens when I use 4-bit Xvesa with my STB Velocity 128 card, which is not very linux compatible.
I forget whether this happened in swm or icewm.

I checked and the delilinux links2 also won't work in 4-bit Xvesa tho it was compiled to work with 4-bit SVGAlib. I guess BL2 would work better on my 12MB 486 with 4-bit or 8-bit color since it can use the delilinux Xvesa and links2, but BL3 can handle the PCMCIA modem there already. Hard choice. We might just not use that computer since it also has a persnickety floppy drive.

I think Steven compiled an Abiword for
BL2/BL1 - does it also refuse to work in 4-bit color?

It's the same AbiWord executable. The earlier package had
more fonts, clipart and help.

Phooey. I would hate to have to set up an X server just for use with a wordprocessor in order to type mono text. Back to DOS WP51.

Cheers,
Steven
