I am new to this list. Need help with the following

LindowsOS 4.5 CD came attached to a $14 magazine. I installed LindowsOS 4.5 on a partition. No problems everything OK, but I get the strong feeling I’ve been hijacked again. It’s very difficult to boot into windows now. There is an option to choose windows, if your quick enough. I don’t like the way the choice to get into windows is so short.

There seems to be no way of escaping “Click n Run”  I’m supposed to get 2 weeks free, but that didn’t seem to be so. I’m not interested in Click N Run I just want to familiarize myself with basic features of Linux. Linux is supposed to be simple isn’t it?

I want a word processor, spreadsheet web access and e-mail nothing else.

I don’t want to stuff things up. My query is If I format the partition ie the D drive which now has LindowsoS on it, I can start again and install a simpler version of Linux? and which version would be best. Can anyone advise. Keep it simple please!

Processor:      AMD Athlon 1200MHz
