- Subject: [BL] Xvesa not working with Win98 DOS himem.sys
- Date: Wed, 9 Jun 2004 19:14:39 -0400 (EDT)
I have Xvesa working fine with AGP cards on two Win98 computers with Win98
DOS, and on several computers with DR_DOS. It even worked with a Win98
boot disk with himem.sys on another computer with an S3 Trio 64 PCI card.
But I have one Gateway P233 computer with Win98 and an S3 Virge PCI video
card where Xvesa won't work unless I boot with DR-DOS. Also won't work
with a Trident PCI card. Is there something odd about Gateways? The
other two Win98 computers with AGP cards both have AMD K6 cpus and I think
this one does too.
Xvesa. 'Illegal instruction'.
Solution is to reboot with either DR-DOS boot disk or with F5 to bypass
system files when planning to use Xvesa, but that is a nuisance.
Or I suppose I could put DR-DOS on this computer and boot Win98 from a
floppy disk.
Has anyone else had problems with Xvesa and himem.sys from Win98?
