Laptop displays are especially tricky to get X windows settings right.
They are often limited to a particular resolution, for one thing. Then,
you can't really physically look at the graphics chip to see what kind it
is, like you can with a desktop. That said, do you know what kind of
graphics chip your notebook has? That's the first order of business.
Once you know that, you can begin looking for the right xserver. I see
you've chosen the xsvga server: did you find that to be the right server
for your graphics chip, or were you just guessing it might work? Please
let us know what graphics chip your laptop has and whether you selected
xsvga becuase you matched it to your graphics chip. Based on that
information, we may be able to provide further tips.

There is a pcmcia package you can add from Slack71: I've forgotten which
directory it's in. You'll certainly need that. As for sound, you'll
need a different kernel with sound enabled. I believe Steven has been
recommending the bare.i kernel for that. Beyond that, I'm not sure what's
involved. Perhaps you'll need a module for your sound card/chip. I
better let Steven field these questions in more detail, since he has a
much better grasp on this than I do.
