Try links-ssl.tgz at <http://www.ncf.ca/ncf/pda/dos/computer/baslinux/>.
I compiled this on Slack 7.1. It seems that the default compilation of
OpenSSL is static, which means that the lynx binary is bigger (about
1.5mg), but you don't need libssl.so or libcrypto.so
# lynx -version
Lynx Version 2.8.4rel.1 (17 Jul 2001)
libwww-FM 2.14, SSL-MM 1.4.1, OpenSSL 0.9.7
Built on linux-gnu Apr 26 2003 12:52:27
# ldd lynx
libncurses.so.5 => /lib/libncurses.so.5 (0x40016000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x40056000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x40000000)
You have to put lynx.cfg in /usr/local/lib and mailcap in /etc.
The graphics viewer defined in the mailcap file is /usr/bin/zgv.
I would recommend that the sooner you are able to install gcc,
the better. To me this is the main point of Free Software.

Having my BL2 running satisfactory I want to increase my ram.
I have some bad rams available and miss the cash to get new good=20
ram ;-).
Would love to include the neccesary patches in the kernel but are a=20
little afraid to start working on patching a well working kernel.
Basicly, how is it done and could I get into troubles with the well=20
groomed BL2 kernel if I start patching the beast?
Have downloaded the patch for the badram for kernel 2.2.16 and aeger=20
to have my new badram ;-).=20

Many thanks. I already installed libssl for Lynx 2.8.3 - would have been
easier not to bother.

Is there some reason you did not compile Lynx 2.8.5? It has been very
stable for me on DOS (well, as stable as internet programs can be on DOS -
I have not gotten any of three diallers to work very well). There are
lots of bug fixes and a way to exit stalled downloads (but I don't get
those with Linux anyway). I don't mean to complain. 2.8.4 with ssl is a
big improvement over non-ssl-2.8.3. Thanks again.

Thanks for the instructions.
I also have not found a precompiled version of zgv for Slackware 7.1 or
anything else with the same library and kernel - did I miss it somehow? I
am using seejpeg but it does not handle a lot of the jpegs I have tried it
on. If you have also compiled zgv, perhaps Steven has the space to post
it and your compiled Lynx for BL2 users. What a wonderful idea to start
this mailing list so people can share ideas (and files)!

It won't fit on my current hard drive (250M split between DOS, BL1, BL2
and swap partition, and BL2 is rapidly filling up with downloaded .tgz
files). I am experimenting on this one before setting up a newer computer
since I have never used Linux before. BL is supposed to work on old
computers, many of which (especially laptops) don't have large enough hard
drives for a compiler.
