So does Lynx 2.8.3 (by interpolation):

It turns out that my bbs has lynx 2.8.4, 2.8.2, 2.71, 2.6 and 2.5 to
experiment on. I set them all to 7-bit approximations, and then later I
set 2.71 and 2.8.x to CP1251 (2.5 has only koi8 for Cyrillic). I loaded
cp1251.f16 and viewed a test site

where you can read 'what is unicode' in lots of languages, in Unicode.
2.5 and 2.6 display garbage as 7-bit approximations. 2.71 and later
display readable approximations and also good Cyrillic. So there is no
really compelling reason to upgrade to Lynx 2.8.4 (though the left-right
scrolling over a wider screen, and the reverse search, sound useful).

I will attempt Opera 5.05 (after X) and use it in conjunction with Lynx
2.83 if I need to view Unicode.
