Just a few parting (for me, at least) comments on Ehyeh:

The following translations render the Hebrew Ehyeh as "I will be" at
Exodus 3:12 :

LXX: esomai
Vulgate: ero
Syriac (Peshitta): ehwe
AV (KJV): I will be
NASB: I will be
And a host of other English translations which, curiously, render the
same Ehyeh as "I Am" just two verses later (3:14)

However, it appears that Jerome's Vulgate (4th century CE) was the first
with the specific formula "I Am That/Who I Am" (ego sum qui sum) at
3:14, since the LXX only has one "I Am" (ego eimi). The Syriac Peshitta
transliterates the Hebrew consonants, but vocalizes ahiyah ashar 'hiyah.

But again, I see no *grammatical* reason to shift from "I will be" at
3:12 in most versions, to "I Am..." at 3:14 in those same versions.
