Below is a story of a Michigan lady whose body was found after she had been missing for about a month. Age 78 suffering from Alzheimer's. She was found last Wednesday. She was found a mile away across country from PLS.
Many of these unsolved searches end this way where the body is usually found just a little out of the original search area or the subject was missed completely. Having talked to those involved with first hand knowledge, I found out that the area where she was found  was open with small brush. (in other words accessible to MSAR which over all more areas are accessible to MSAR than not.)

Now one mile from Point Last Seen is not very far. That brings me to my point that I tried to get across in my posts last week, that SAR would benefit if MSAR trained more to cover large areas in a short amount of time vs only training for line searches or small area searches.
There were bloodhounds involved in this Michigan search from the start and even though the K9's can do great work they can also fail and MSAR can not stand by and expect that the K9's will solve the search because more often than not that is not the case.
MSAR has a lot room for improvement and covering a lot of ground in a short amount of time is our strong point. Like I mentioned last Friday in  Improving MSAR  4 AND 5.

Here is a news article from the local paper.
