I think a park there would be a great idea. You make many excellent points while dancing around the main point. $$$$$$ It all comes down to money. Developers develop. That's what they do. They do it becuase they make money. They have the amount of money needed to make more money. They are salivating as we speak and have all the tools of their trade ready to go. Donations to campaigns, perks, out-right bribes, etc. They could even elect their own pro-develop Dorothia Dix candidate. I don't want to go off on a tirade so I'll limit myself to a few points. I don't know your timeline or the timeline for decisions regarding the Dix property.  I personally would make a pitch to the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. You need to show that the property is worth more, to as many people as possible, as a park than it is developed. It may be that part of it would be developed and that would pay for the maintenance of the park. You need to reach decision makers and frame this park as their legacy. I'd get a letter wirting campaign going, I'd rewrite your letter to stress the positive elements and write several versions from different people to send in to keep the message focused. Are you going to the gathering on Thursday? Will you be wearing a name tag? Perhaps a spirited discussion might ensue?
