Since when was a perl one-liner ever acknowledged for being "simple" ?
(Before you try to explain the benefits of perl, I want to let you
know I am a long time perl hacker).

I happen to think the shell scripts are extremely messed up right now,
mostly due to the infrastructure that Kyle put in place, and especially
around cast & dependencies. However, I don't think just by switching to
perl we will fix the problem.

Design is the issue, not language, and I'm convinced we could improve
our tools immensly, even if we stayed with bash.
