The way forward to paradigm shift is to empower people to change the way
they live
and to take full responsibility for their own well being and future.
Harping on "capitalism is baaaad" isn;t going to
inspire them much. I have promoted a new age of modern peasantry and
peasant sovereignty and a return to communalism
and limited, focused socialist systems. Not a peer out of anyon in this PC
list about that. Several essays on this subject exist on thi list's
homepage along with (with permission) Scott's ourline for a PDC. We need to
move away from letting ourselves be polarized by any forces. Positive
constructive hands-on, nuts-and-bolts, pull out all the stops the PC
toolkit offers kind of action is the only solution that will move
Permaculture forward as far as "mainstream acceptance" (a debatable term)
is concerned.
As for Walmart, the headline in the Wall Street Jornal could read: "Walmart
puts together a team of graduates from Permaculture curricula in community
colleges across the USA to oversee all landscaping in all new stores and
retrofit all existing ones". Probably a $100K/year job for each of them.
Community colleges could offer a two year (read: TWO YEARS) degreed course
in Permaculture. The course could be designed by Scott and collaborators he
selects. Graduates could (would probably be) hired by cities and towns
across the USA to work with farmers markets, local food production,
community gardens, community parks, parks and recreation, PDC courses for
town citizens, practical applications of permaculture for homeowners,
education on eliminating use of all categories of pesticides and much more.
That is bringing Permaculture into the mainstream, complete with peasantry,
communalism and socialist systems, a thoroughgoing integration of the most
perfect permaculture one can imagine with all facets of human activity on
this planet.

I hope the discussion continues because it has become a valuable thread. I
don;t see any political parties forming other than the one Steve and I will
join,
Unswerving Luddites United.
