Esfahan looks more and more attractive the more I read about it.

Isfahan? The famous mosque at Isfahan is truly beautiful; Google pictures of it or go to PBase and search.

Something else you will be interested in is the thousands of years old irrigation system the Persians built to supply irrigation water to their orchards and cropland, going hand in hand with the pigeon towers,
the Quanats. Google that for lots more info. It was a system of catchments and channels to collect and direct water where it was needed,
often masonry constructions. Some of this system still exists but since the "Green" revolution and "modern: agriculture much of it has fallen into disrepair.
