But what are the capitalist opportunities in making youtube
videos? So far it just costs me gobs of money.

Why not put together a compilation of all your great clips and then
sell them on DVD to folks that do not have access to youtube?

That IS a good idea. Plenty of people are still on 56k dialup or don't have computers at all.

You could always approach a professional production company with the
view to using all the footage that you have as part of a longer
documentary. Homesteading type shows are getting more and more
popular by the day.

There is a HUGE groundswell of interest in homesteading, urban and rural, permaculture homesteading and urban farming and 80% of these folks need videos with 50% of those needing multimedia w/ supplemental resources and subscription to downloadable upgraded versions.

This new wave of interest started in the 1960's and has been gaining momentum ever since. With access to computers and the web the audience
is in the many millions now. Topics include:

Food production:
livestock
gardening
orcharding
permaculture

Food processing & storage and cooking:
making your own at home
grain production, storage and processsing, baking
fermented products
equipment and tools

Paul could get all sorts of paid sponsors, i.e. sell ads:
Fertrell Fertilizers
Lehmans
Japanese Macrobiotic foods, mail order (Jaffeee Bros.)
Dried fruit sellers, mail order (Natural Import Co.)

Woodworking
Metalworking
Appropriate Technology

Learn Permaculture, learn to teach it, write about it and make multimedia, sell online courses in permaculture coupled with
selections of appropriate audio-video, multimedia presentations
Collaborate with existing degreed teachers to produce DVD's to sell
EBooks

the list of commercial possibilities is endless
