I'm not too sure in Haiti.... but in Panama and Coastal Colombia we use
coconut oil for the no-see-ums, which works great as it suffocates them when
they land on your skin. I have seen varieties of coconut oil blended with
citronella, both of which are abundant in the tropics, and hear it works as
well for mosquitoes; just don't expose yourself to direct sunlight with
coconut oil (or any oils for that matter) or you'll be the skin cancer
poster child.

In any case be careful, cover up, and watch the clock; mosquitoes are
somewhat specific to sunlight, temperature, and ambient humidity (a call for
basic observation). There a number of nasty illnesses, such as Dengue Fever
which is highly common throughout the Caribbean, which are transmitted by
mosquitoes.

Maybe a good start for community rehabilitation; take care of you little
biting buddies first???
