One site that is pretty large is http://forums.permaculture.org.au/index.php

A lot of info in there.

I'm also a software developer turned permie. I'm a Java guy. I'm a
big fan of forums and and set up some Java forums in 1998. They now
get about 70,000 visitors a day: javaranch.com

I set up some permie forums a few years ago, and they are doing pretty
well at permies.com. That gets about 2000 page views a day and about
30 posts a day.

I think that rather than create something new, first take a look
around at what already exists. There are lots and lots of really cool
things that exist and there are some really cool things in the hopper.
Last fall I learned about how the amazing data from edible forest
gardens is being mashed into a database! Somewhere I read about a
permie wiki. And there are some great vids on youtube! The home
site for permaculture activist magazine has a HUGE list of resources
(although the last time I checked, it didn't mention my stuff).

Hi Christophe,

As a fellow programmer, I think it might be neat if there was something
that integrated the many regional websites around the world. Like a web
ring, but with a shared global calendar (maybe google?) and resource bank.
Maybe there is something like that already, but if so, I haven't come across
it. It might also be neat to be able to search by region and each region
that contributes could have an rss feed, or something. Many permie web
sites reference other ones but the data isn't shared across all of them
consistently. For example, our website,
http://www.permaculturemarin.org/index.cfm?section=resources&page=links has
lots of links but it's by NO means complete. And although a wiki exists,
http://permaculture.wikia.com/wiki/ PermacultureWiki:Community_Portal it
could use more contributors. That's just off the top of my head.

Cheers!

hi everybody,

just introducing myself. i'm still very new to
permaculture. i'm currently reading/watching
everything i can get my hands on about it, holistic
management, as well as botany and ecology.
i'm very excited about permaculture and i'll be doing
my PDC near santa barbara in june with darren doherty.

i'm contemplating making a website for the
use of the permaculture community. for the
moment i am still very much educating myself
and trying to figure out how my skills as a
programmer and graphic designer can best
be used on this project. i have many ideas
and have written a fairly long-winded exposition
of those, but i think it best if i ask you guys first
before i put my ideas forward:

if you could have a permaculture website
that could do *anything* you wanted, what
would those features that you find most
important/useful be?

keeping in mind not just the currently initiated, but also
those wanting to find out more, as well as functionality
that will be useful in the long term, as the world situation
continues to unfold.

regards,
christophe
