If you have a city public works department, give them a call. They
often throw the chunks in the back of a dump truck and pay to drop it
off at the local dump (or concrete recycling place, in my case) and
they were happy to dump it for free in my back yard instead. If only
I had been there when they dumped it, so that it wasn't 30 feet from
where I wanted to use it; rocks are heavy!

In terms of size, the concrete that comes from sidewalks (which they
are constantly replacing) is only 3-4 inches thick and very easy to
break up with a sledgehammer. It also always has two flat parallel
sides, which makes it a dream to dry stack (something not true of your
average stone.)

The concrete I get from my city is an aggregate of little stones, so
it doesn't dress as nicely as good stone, but you can get it to rough
shapes pretty easily.
