I dunno, Jack, the chickens here were picking off the big full-grown hoppers
pretty well! Early in the season there are the newly hatched buggers and
then a whole generation of those that made it through full grown.

Mowing the perimeter is one of those things you keep saying works. Will have
to try it though the Nosema(Nolo Bait) didn't do any noticeable good here.
Perhaps I didn't start early enough, and it does require several
applications with the hoppers still hoppin' several weeks after application
even if it does work!

If you still had food after the hoppers came through, Bobbi, then you had
them like I did this year or last...NOT like the year I got totally wiped
out. There is really a difference. Good that you at least still had hole-y
leaves and yes, you must be doing something right.

No, I do not think the wild and domesticated turkeys will compete since
yours would be penned, presumably. As some one mentioned, it is helpful to
get turkeys bred as a cross.

The toms get huge! The hens, not so big. Frankly, mine vanished when they
were smaller than full grown as we were traveling and the house sitter left
for a few days. We'll never know if the coyotes got them when left out at
night or if they drowned (there's quite a story... true? not sure.. about
turkeys looking up when it rains and drowning...like I said, they're not too
bright) So you get the turkeys in there when they're still small and young
and if they do get too large, eventually, you move them out. I do not think
they would fly over a 7 foot fence.
