Thanks Doug and Claude.

I did have a Boskoop that I got from Siloam, It was a lovely young tree which I had high hopes for, until during a storm, a 60ft maple came crashing down on top of it splintering it into pieces!

Unfortunately after that I got disheartened, and decided to fill the space with a larger, locally-procured Priscilla, which is doing well so far.

Maybe I'll try a Boskoop, still it would be great to taste one before investing (time and money) again. I believe they are particularly slow to bear. My best friend lives in Holland, and has had them, but I am not sure she's a big cooking apple fan.

For the Cox, I know it's not a Cox sport but I got the Reine de Reinette thinking it would give me something similar on a tree that's hardy enough to survive here. Maybe I am kidding myself! Haven't had any apples from it yet so can't comment.

We do what we can! Perhaps I'll save up and buy another Boskoop after all, If I don't fill up my last space with something else first!

Thanks again for the advice,

Caren Kirk

done so already you might try Belle de Boskoop or Sandow as cookers of
quality: Claude Jolicoeur reports them hardy with him.
Yes, they both are great apples and hardy in zone
4 at 80 km north-east of Quebec City, in the Charlevoix county.

And as a Cox type, as I was saying in a previous
message, I have Golden Nugget (Golden rsst x Cox)
that does well and also Rubinette (Golden
Delicious x Cox). Both are great tasting apples.
And both have been there for over 15 years now
and are healthy and vigorous, so their hardiness
is good. Interestingly, looking back at my notes,
these 2 were sent to me by Fred Janson in 1995. A
truly great shipment he sent me that day.

Claude
