Yellowhorn did not do well in our humid climate. It was beautiful in bloom but as Lee says, not very tasty, and for us they were rarely produced. I've heard them called "famine food" Hector Black zone 6 middle tn.

How true about locating it carefully. My tree -- which also has survived below minus 20 degrees -- is located near where I turn around in my driveway. There are always some broken branches where my truck has brushed against the tree.

The tree is beautiful in flower, which it's doing right now here in New York's Hudson Valley, Zone 4-5. The nuts look like macadamias and are edible but not very good-tasting.

locate carefully? & how big is your tree after 10 years? Supposedly the get
20 feet high.

I have had a Yellowhorn (Xanthocerus sorbifolius) here in the ground for
ten
years. It's been a pretty slow grower but it has experienced temps
below -40 C/F with no damage at all. Locate them carefully. The wood is
extremely brittle.

Curious if anyone is growing Yellowhorn (Xanthoceras sorbifolium) in Zone
4?
I have a bunch of them in pots that I can never decide whether I should
put
them in the ground or not. Some websites list as Zone 4 but I'lve also
seen
listed at Zone 6.
