Doreen,
Container-growing it reduces drastically the size that the plant has to
be in order to fruit.

I received a small Carmine Jewel plant yesterday at the Chicago Flower &
Garden Show from Gurney's.  They gave them to members of the press to try,
and, of course, write about.  They said it was the perfect container fruit,
but literature that came with the plant states that Carmine Jewel doesn't
fruit until it's shoulder-high and wide.  That sounds too big for a
container, more like a plant for a shrub border or to stick in my fenced
veggie garden.  That's where I have blueberries and cranberries, to keep the
critters away.

The tiny plant already has green buds, and there is still snow on ground
here.  So, I guess I'll plant it in a container initially.

We had terrible problems with fireblight at our farm in east/central VA, but
the Jennybelle serviceberry was wonderful.
never any disease, only the birds were just ferocious for them
I prefer them over blueberries; I really like the almond flavor of the
seeds.
I really wish I could get the same ones again- I almost think I should go
ask the new owners for a start. But I hate to go back there so much.. I know
that they have removed many of my plantings. It's their place now, of
course, but when you graft young trees you just get so attached..
