Yes, you are right. Fruit forms on new wood (last year's growth). Hector Black zone 6 middle TN

Fruit forms on new wood as nearly as I can tell. Last year I got very few
of my Illinios Everbearing mulberries as the tree had grown well out of my
reach to get most of the fruit. So, I decided to pollard the tree last
fall. I know its still alive (heck, the branches I pruned off most of which
were over an inch in diameter still scratch moist and green) but neither it,
nor the seedling tree in my neighbor's yard have yet awoken from their
winter slumber (morus indeed : )

I'll let you know later this year if my little experiment worked. I can
tell you that trying to maintain a reasonable size by pruning alone will
require constant vigilance.

These are grafted on morus alba so hopefully I won't be mowing them
anytime soon. I take it the fruit forms on 2nd year wood?
