I also wrote in my book that the flowers are do "not seem to be completely self-fertile, because cross-pollination sometimes increases production." I suggest planting another variety or grafting a branch of another variety onto your tree. My trees fruit reliably after winters down to about minus 20 degrees F.

I planted one cornelian cherry (cornus mas) about 5 or 6 years ago (Jubilee, I think.  Maybe Pioneer.) with the idea that I would plant more if I liked the fruit.  So far, it hasn't fruited.  Either it's not actually self-fertile as reported, or possibly I'm too far north to get fruit, although the last several years there have been no freezes during or after it bloomed.  I did notice (after planting the tree) that Lee Rich mentioned in his book that they woudn't bear fruit north of zone 5.  I am in southern MN, zone 4.  I'm wondering if anyone else in zones 3 or 4 has had any success getting fruit from cornus mas.  And if so, what varieties.
