We were in the area hit by the drought and my apples, pears, plums and cherries are blooming away-- only yellow jackets and flys out there that I can see. Are yellow jackets any good for anything? I did see one bumble bee a week ago before the blooms opened. It does not look good.

Almost all our blackberry canes (95%+) and probably 70% of our red raspberry canes are dead. We even lost a few canes of the red currants which usually make it through the winter fine. I did check, but no holes in the canes;.nice solid wood in the red currants.

For those of you in the areas hit hard last year during the Easter freeze,
that were then hit with the severe drought, are you seeing any honey bees
this spring? In years past, my fruit trees are buzzing with thousands of
them, but this spring, I have not seen a single one. In fact, I have not
seen much in the way of any pollinating insects, except carpenter bees,
which don't pollinate well due to their habit of cheating by cutting holes
in the base of flowers. I guess the lack of flowers last year caused the
populations to crash.
