Regarding Lehman's press-it looks like the Happy Valley logo on the side of
the grinder. I have friends with a Happy Valley press and grinder, and I
find that my garbage disposal grinds apples much finer so that I get more
cider per bushel of apples than they do. That was a determining factor for
me. Sometime I will have my wife get the budget book out and figure what I
have spent on the home built press, garbage disposal grinder, etc., but I
don't think it was $500 total, including new steel for all of the parts of
the frame of the press, and having the stainless steel parts fabricated at a
shop instead of doing it ourselves.
The bottom line to me is that we spent less money and get more cider per
bushel. But it doesn't look like a traditional cider press.

Keep meaning to post this link when these cider press discussions come
through. I've never tried Lehman's presses, but have had other things
from them, and the company is reliable. The single tub press at $589
sounds like not much more than some people have probably spent buying
garbage disposals and building presses around them. Wheel kits are
available for this and for their double tub press.
