You never know about deer. I have had deer eat the tips of new growth off my rose bushes and leave my peas alone; figure that. Do you think deer like variety like people? Seems so.

Pear branches heavy w/ fruit dipped to w/in reach of deer recently. The only
cultivar stripped of leaves AND small green fruitlets was 'Patten'. Just passing
this along in case deer actually have a preference for 'Patten', compared to those
more closely related to 'Bartlett'. (Maybe just THESE deer prefer it? Maybe the
damage was done on a bet? I'll never figure out deer.)
