Wolf River is generally grown because of its size. (FOLKS! ONE APPLE MAKES A
PIE!! and that sort of hype.)

Wolf River is supposed to be among the best for drying, a common form of
apple preservation in the 19th century. It's supposed to be decent for
cooking.

It is also particularly well adapted to very sandy soils, on which Wolf
River is supposed to produce a good apple for eating out of hand. The Wolf
Rivers that I have tasted must not have been grown on sand.
