I must have the same friend in Reno as Lucky. He has graciously sent me quite a few also. My wife and I peel and eat as we watch tv. We always have eaten raw. Last year he sent was the biggest pine nuts we have seen.

I have a friend who lives in the Reno NV area, and from time to time,  he
sends me 5-10 lbs of pinyon pine nuts, and I send him hickory nuts or pecans
in return.
Fairly tasty little morsels, though they're not a favorite with anyone in my
family.  I've eaten them raw, roasted them, boiled in brine(like peanuts) and
then dried in the oven - like salted in-the-shell peanuts.  I think the latter
is my preferred method of preparation.
Some have enough enough of a 'resin' flavor, that some of my friends refuse to
eat them anymore.
