I have 2 acres of highbush blueberries and could never have managed the
weeds without Roundup. For years I had grass in the aisles, and mowed three
or more times a year. However I also began mulching with free woodchips
several years ago, and began eliminating the grass aisles. (My rows are only
8 feet apart, which made mowing difficult as plants matured, but made
mulching all the way across more practical.) I found that greatly improved
the weed situation, especially grass, and reduced the amount of Roundup
spraying I have to do. It also ended any need for irrigation, while
requiring more nitrogen fertilizer. The main problem now is woody seedlings
brought in with the chips, or buried by squirrels. Roundup won't touch
hickory seedlings, they have to be removed by hand, long taproot and all.
