TER
I found your point very well stated and wonder at
those folks who still insist on working intact SAR dogs. The distraction
factor is incredible and bitches in heat will lose focus whether an intact male
is around or not! While there may not be as much potential for injury to
people (or perhaps as much considering the potential for fights), there is also
the complication created by trying to train dogs while bitches are in season..
whether you have an intact male or not.. everyone is distracted by her scent
left in a training area, etc. To presume that no dog should urinate in a
training area (without having it treated as a kennel) is a bit unreasonable
since many search areas could have dog urine and other scensory
distractions.
Anyway, in an endeavor that taxes resources and
resourcefulness, it seems unnecessary and perhaps irresponsible to provide yet
another variable with potential hazard/distraction inherent.
