I quit poultry 10 years ago after a 30 year run I did the chicken bit...
Today XL brown eggs wholesale for $1.80 mediums are $1.08 in the northeast
US. So you can see what your competeing against. I used to figure it cost me
$3.00 to raise a chick to pullet. And I figured 2-3 pounds of commercial
layer mash per dozen eggs for housed chickens depending on the time of the
year. A couple of grey areas in figuring costs is the time between small eggs
to the most profitable large grade. Another sticky point is between moults.
Its good to time a forced molt to get the whold flock to molt together. I
can't stress enough to find a good feed dealer most today cater to hobby
farmers and rip you off... Bob.
