Title: Re: [Market-farming] Growing Small Grains for CSA and Market I believe that Gene’s book was updated a couple of years ago. I had been operating on a photocopy of the book and then found it on Amazon. My copy is currently loaned out but here’s the link for it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Small-Scale-Grain-Raising-Second-Processing/dp/1603580778/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1294948948&sr=1-1

Just to be clear, I absolutely love Gene's book on small scale grains. My only objection is that it's old enough (1970s) that his equipment references are out of date. I recall at one point he references the Sears catalog as a source for some of that equipment. If only! Very frustrating for someone gearing up to grow, but then can't find the equipment to do so. And so far, our attempts to harvest by hand just wasn't a good use of our limited time. I wonder if he'd consider updating that book with some newer equipment sources or ideas. Other than that, his book is in my Top 10 favorites of all time.
Richard - I haven't gotten all the way through your two postings this morning, but THANK YOU for taking the time to write it all out. Sharing all this info will undoubtedly help a lot of folks, who in turn can share with others. That's what it's all about.

A couple of years ago someone contacted me about a seriously heirloom
wheat growing project in New England. I've forgotten the details. I
think this was a breeding project based on very ancient European
wheat. Small farms and farmers were involved in this project.
Does this ring a bell with anyone?
