I was told that everyone was selling at a loss rather than go home with unsold eggs.
The price at the beginning of the summer was $3.50 (I think one vendor
had them for $4.00), but they ended up at $2.50 per dozen. At that
price I decided to get out of the egg business :-)

There's an old story about a hardware store customer who kept buying hammers.

He came in on Tuesday and bought a hammer; paid $10 for it.

He was back on Thursday and bought five more.

He was back again on Friday and bought ten. On Saturday he bought fifteen.

At that point, the store owner couldn't stand it any longer, and asked, "What are you doing with all these hammers?"

"Selling them! They sell really well!"

"Can I ask how much you're selling them for?"

"$5 each! -- I'm not making any money yet, but just wait till I get the volume up high enough!"

Out of the egg business is where all those vendors are going to be. And then where will the market customers get good eggs?
