I run rows in a variety of directions (as do most farmers) and have not noticed a single difference in yields, be it a row crop, potatoes, or produce in the garden. We are still in peak sun season and while running things north to south MAY matter in the winter when you have a sun VERY low in the sky, everything in the garden right now is going to get good sun. That's not to say you should be careful of planting items that may shade out other plants because of height, say Okra or Tomatoes or trellised produce. But running things east to west during the summer season should matter little. I'd be more focused on making good use of your space than trying to find a "rule of thumb" and plan for the second season in terms of rotating crops. I am curious if you have planted anything yet and what you plan on starting now what you were planning on planting.
