Yes, I know and I don't know what that is about nor do I know what
chemistry may be involved.

I might be rattled by looking too closely at the speedling system
where the trays have NOTHING under them, ideally. In my situation, I
do have a lot of seedling trays out at any given time.

I haven't found a good hardware store solution for the channel system
that speedling, if appears, no longer sells to the public.

Speedling is/was a major grower of plugs and whatnot, but I dont think that even they are using the foam flats any more. Most of the foam I see now is field plugs run on transplanters and I have not been around any of the growers using them to see how they are benching the flats in the greenhouse.

Thinking about it this morning I can see where a flat sitting on spaced boards would have wet and dryer rows of cells which would make transplants less uniform, likewise if the center of the flat saggs the center will be wetter which is undesireable.

No sooner had I worked with the trainers and engineers on drainage, media, and air pruning of roots than I got sent off to do the shows in Raliegh and Charlotte where everyone was talking float trays which are foam flats sitting on top of a pool of water. About then we went out of the container business and concentrated on buildings and equipmment; life was much improved.
